I'm more looking for advice here than
reporting a problem or anything, but my norns seem to not know each
other's names too well.
For instance, I've got a CFE Treehugger called Ameki who keeps hitting a CFE Fallow called Annie for some inexplicable reason. Ameki reacts as I'd expect her to, but instead of saying 'me dislike Ameki' she simply says 'me dislike norn'. If I ask her about it (ie: type 'Allie like Ameki') she doesn't say anything, and she doesn't avoid Ameki or hit her or anything. I've also got a CFE Siamese who appears to be the stud of the group, as all three females keep saying 'me like armando', to which he generally replies 'armando love norn'... So I guess my question is how do I make my norns know each other's names? __________________

Creatures can have a generalized opinion of
species. If a norn dislikes a large number of norns, they'll say 'dislike
norn' instead of using a name. They can make exceptions, but they will
tend to negative actions towards the species they don't like. The same
goes for like, love and hate.
In this case the treehugger probably got hit alot by other norns, and decided that hitting others was a good idea. The group of females probably pushed the male alot, so he generally loves norns. Try asking him about females he mated with ![]() __________________

So it sounds like Armando is very appreciative
of norns. XD

Well I left the game running overnight, so I can't exactly ask them now... Armando's reasoning I understand (though he went on to get into a fight with a Zebra male, resulting in them both disliking each other XD), but Ameki was strange - I only had six norns at the time, and as the only treehugger she usually avoided them. I watched those norns pretty constantly to begin with and Ameki was the only one to hit the others. I guess it could've been because she was also friendly at the time, or maybe she just really hated being crowded ![]() I woke up this morning to find that my norns had developed a strange quirk - apparently the cure to crowdedness is to 'push toy'. I know it's wrong, but since they never seem to push toys anyway I'm not going to correct them ![]() EDIT: Alright, well now I'm just bamboozled by this. I have a norn named 'Choro' who's either really popular or really unpopular with my other norns, depending upon who you ask. Some say 'me like choro' to which he replies 'choro like norn', but others will say 'me dislike choro' to which he replies 'choro dislike norn'. What's the deal here, why aren't my norns using names when they speak? It can't be the majority thing, as norns can't both like and dislike the general populace (can they?), so if it's not that then what else could it be? ![]() __________________

Huh, that's strange. Are they saying 'me like
choro' or '<name> like choro'? I have a bunch of CFE aqua norns that
strangely enough always refer to themselves as "me" and the rest to their
species' name, which is a difference in genetics, as they are no different
from other CFEs otherwise.
I have no idea how what you described could happen, though my best guess would be genetics. Perhaps you could clone him and see if the same behaviour emerges? ![]() As for Ameki, treehuggers get crowded easily, and are never lonely (the drive is even switched off), so she was probably scared to begin with. You probably have the cuddly tree in your world, because pushing it reduces crowdedness ![]() __________________

No no, they're actually saying 'me
like/dislike choro'.
It seems that most of my CFE norns in that world refer to themselves as 'me', though I've just started a new CFE wolfing run and they all seem to be using their names... It would be weird if it was genetic. I'm pretty sure that Choro is still alive (I stopped playing that world shortly after my last post), so I'll clone him when I get home and try to see what's what. __________________

Yeah, ever since I installed DS, they've been
going on and off about each others' names. I'd say Vampess is right,
though. Maybe it's about norns in general.

I've just noticed something strange in my CFE
Hardman world. A male, Dago, is standing around complaining of being
angry. Nothing odd there. But a norn keeps telling him, "Maybe express
seed Dago." That doesn't even make sense. o_O

Ah, yes
![]() Expressing is an action that's basically verb only. The noun is agent they are looking at when expressing themselves. Expressing reduces anger and crowdedness (though creatures will not learn from the crowdedness reduction, for reasons described in the openings post). Creatures will learn that expressing themselves helps reduce anger, but they will also remember what agent they performed the action on. So in this case the Hardman norn had his attention on a seed, expressed himself, and learned it worked ![]() __________________

Vampess is right again. Since "express" is a
verb, some norns like to have a subject to go with it, because it worked
before.
It's possible that it's not only "looking," either. It could even be that the norn was talking to the seed itself, in which case you have yourself a schitzophrenic norn. =D __________________
